Let's Write Our Own History!

Postby gospelntune » Wed Jan 24, 2007 11:26 am

In an effort to preserve traditional gospel/quartet music and share the legacy of our music with the world, we think it fitting if we the supporters, take it upon ourseleves to enter the names of many that have been influential to this gospel quartet music industry in an Encyclopedia. Please join us in making the world aware of our artist, by helping to write their history in Wikipedia, the multilingual web-based, free content encyclopedia.

Wikipedia is written by volunteers, usually the person’s name is submitted and a history is begun, then others add to that history resulting in a biography of the individual. In visiting I was surprised and appalled at the few gospel artist that were included. Especially after so many prevalent styles of music are so richly influence by quartet gospel any so many artist got their careers started in gospel.

To make your contribution to the encyclopedia, you just need Web access. We are going to contribute names and information and we hope you will too. We owe it to those that have given of themselves so unselfishly to this great musical legacy we now enjoy and we owe it to the future generations that will need to know of their history and culture.

Come on gospel music lovers. Here’s something worthwhile that we can do together, write our own place in history.

Sincerely,
“We CARE”.

Please post your first 5 choices to enter. Once they are entered, if you have valid info please add it to the bio. We have a wealth of knowledge.
It’s time we make others aware of who we are.

I suggest that you visit the Wikipedia website and run a search to see if that person is already there before posting their names. If they are already there then, just add to their bio.

Click here and type their name in the search box to see if they've been added to the encyclopedia.

This will be a very fitting project to begin Feb. Black History Month! Let’s get started!

Don't forget to give us 5 names in your post.

I started to create an encyclopaedia about traditional and quartet gospel music on the German website www.gospelszene.de two years ago. But it's all written in German. If you're interested to see what I did, please go to www.gospelszene.de, then go to "Lexikon" (on left side below), go to "Portraits" and then "Wichtige Namen aus den USA" (= important names from the USA) which is the first line of alphabetical orders. If you click on a letter you'll find names of singers, groups, choirs, soloists and these links lead to informations about them and historical dates. Must be more than five hundred hints.

You also can go to my own website www.gospel-news.de.vu and click on the link "Lexikon" at the left side.

You have done a wonderful job and what an extensive list. What website do you suggest for translation.
Something simple.

Hello Gospelntune,

many thanks for your e-mail. Well, I think I can't give you any advice for a translation program. I don't know one. When I'm writing here at the Quartet Central I don't use translation programs. But why not taking one of my texts and just trying what program makes most sense while translating. Because German and English have the same historical origin, I guess most of what I've written might be translated in a way you will understand.

Be blessed
